Many times a year TBBR takes in dogs that are considered unadoptable and we provide them with much needed medical care, friendship and comfort for a few weeks, months or even years in our homes. These dogs may be old and frail or have a terminal illness, or they may have a behavior issue that prevents them from finding a permanent home. This way they can live out their natural life in a home setting. This form of rescue is some of the most important work we do, although admittedly it is hard on the heart. We are always looking for people who can provide some temporary comfort to a Compassionate Care dog that comes to our attention. If you can't offer your home, consider sponsoring a dog in this program with either a financial gift for medical care or special diets and supplements, or with a donation of gently used supplies.
Pandora was abandoned out in the Ocala National Forest. For a month she lived on her own, hiding under people's sheds and surviving off the kindness of some very concerned local residents who were feeding her and trying to trap her. Finally on Thanksgiving Day they were able to catch her and called TBBR for help. She was terrified but allowed them to handle her. It was as if she knew she was safe and they were trying to help her. She's a very beautiful little girl. She is a true hunter and spends her time in the yard nose to the ground signaling every couple of seconds with a high pitched squeal announcing the exciting things she is tracking. She has learned the routine of the household and comes running when her name is called. She still does not like to be touched and would probably never be a good household pet but she loves being part of the pack and has really learned to appreciate a peanut butter dipped milk bone! We are so thrilled to have her as part of our pack and provide her with all the care she needs to live out a wonderful life.
